FAQ for The Smashing Library

Please visit https://shop.smashingmagazine.com/. All available eBooks and digital versions of print books are part of the Smashing Library subscription.

Both - we offer eBooks containing articles previously published on Smashing Magazine as well as exclusive eBook versions of all Smashing print books.

No, a monthly subscription option is not available at the moment. You can, however, buy each monthly eBook bundle individually as usual.

Once you've subscribed to the Smashing eBook Library, your subscription period will last one year and will be automatically renewed at the end of the year. Just in case you'd like to cancel your subscription, you are kindly asked to send us an email to support [at] smashinglibrary [dot] com four weeks before the subscription period ends, otherwise the subscription will be extended for another year.

Please log into your account (https://shop.smashingmagazine.com/customer/account/) and click on the Smashing Library tab in the top right corner. Here you will find all Smashing eBooks that are part of your subscription package ready for download.

Log into your account in the Smashing Shop. You will find the poll in upcoming eBooks in the top right corner of the Smashing Library tab.

We offer all of our eBooks in PDF, ePub and Kindle format.

No, you don’t need an eBook reader to be able to read the eBooks. Every eBook has a PDF version available and can be viewed on any computer. EPUB and Amazon Kindle formats are available as well, for those of you who prefer to use their eBook readers or tablets.

In case the latest eBooks are grayed out and not available for download, you may have forgotten to renew your subscription. Just go to https://shop.smashingmagazine.com/ and pay the 12-month access fee to renew the subscription. If you cannot access any eBook downloads, you must first sign up and pay for your subscription through the Smashing Shop at https://shop.smashingmagazine.com/.

We accept credit card payment (Visa, Master, Amex), PayPal and bank transfer.

Yes. Please contact support [at] smashinglibrary [dot] com. Please be sure to include information on the type, number of employees and location of your company or educational institution and he will get back to you with more information on corporate or educational offers.

Customers of the Euro zone have to bear the VAT, which is added to the net price of the subscription option.

If you think your book is missing, please take a look at our list of estimated delivery times, first. The delivery times can vary significantly, even within the same country. Also please note that these are only estimates and unfortunately some shipments arrive even later than estimated.

If you think that your order is significantly overdue, please contact us so that we can check the status of your shipment. Please include the following information:

  1. order number
  2. country

The shipping of "Digital Adaptation" will start on March 12th 2014 and of course you'll receive a shipping confirmation once the books have been dispatched. In the meantime, you can start reading the eBook version in your dashboard. Also, please take a look at our estimated delivery times. Unfortunately, some shipments arrive even later than estimated. But this is usually way out of our control.

If you think your book is missing, please take a look at our list of estimated delivery times, first. The delivery times can vary significantly, even within the same country. Also please note that these are only estimates and unfortunately some shipments arrive even later than estimated.

If you think that your order is significantly overdue, please contact us so that we can check the status of your shipment. Please include the following information:

  1. order number
  2. country

No. Sometimes such "ghost orders" can happen, for example if you do not finish the order process. These orders will not be shipped. Only orders that have been paid for will be shipped. We will not try to charge you for these orders at a later time (even if we wanted we could not because we do not store your credit card information).

If you are not satisfied with your purchase please return it in its original packaging and with all relevant documentation within 100 days. We will refund your money completely. If the value of goods is below €40 the customer has to cover the return shipping costs. Please securely package and return the printed book(s) to:

FAQ for eBooks

This is absolutely necessary for various reasons. For instance, downloading one particular e-book several times is only possible for registered users. This can come in handy, if you delete your first download accidentally. Or the e-book file might not appear in your download folder or where ever you wanted to save it. Furthermore, registered users are supplied with regular updates, bug fixes and new formats. As a guest user and without registration you will miss all these considerable advantages.

Usually you should see a download link immediately after completing the order. If you somehow missed it, you can still access it any time by login into your account and then clicking on "Downloadable Items".

If you have any problems with the download procedure or in case of error messages please notify us via our contact form. Our mailing system forwards messages to the Smashing team members, who will take care of requests as soon as possible.

All eBooks are only published in English so far. However, we might translate popular titles into other languages, if there is a vital demand for that. Please stay tuned - as we will announce it on Smashing Magazine immediately, if eBooks are available in further languages.

Smashing Magazine is continually evolving and new projects are coming up. We had recently started talking to publishing houses regarding a cooperation in the publishing of printed versions of our e-book titles. Please stay tuned — when eBooks are available as printed version, you will be informed on smashingmagazine.com immediately.

Miscellaneous

You can only login to our system if you registered for an account. It is possible to order printed books without registration, so maybe you just do not have an account. If you do have registered for an account and still cannot login, you might have remembered the wrong password. In that case, just see the next question.
